New parliament, border issues, and post-punkedness.

Wow, there's something big going on here. Paul Martin went to Rideau Hall to be sworn in as Canada's next prime minister. He's got a bunch of things on his mind, and they show in what he's done with the government. He's cleared house, replacing most of the old guard in cabinet with new faces Lots of surprises, too. Some of Martin's old supporters didn't get the cabinet positions they thought they'd get. Interesting, that.

but dude! These swearings-in take a while. what with everything being said in both languages, and each minister bowing to the Governor-General and shaking hands and crap. And BTW, hearing an aged man from BC trying to read his oath in French is pretty damned funny.

Okay, but Anne McLellan, who's the new deputy prime minister and solicitor-general, barely speaks French! That's gonna go over well in Qubec...

Oh, and as feared, the 'homeland security' spectre has raised its ugly-arsed head. They call it 'public safety and emergency preparedness,' and handed it to Anne McLellan.

I dunno, man, I still don't like Martin. He's ordered into existence some of the most sweeping changes ever, but I can't believe that all the trumpeting about ethics and culturalism is just smoke and mirrors.

In other news, It seems that the US military had to be told to stop recruiting one reserves that just happen to be on Canadian land. By which I mean crossing the border to recruit peeps for their Iraq debacle. That's telling, if you ask me. Oh, they're also offering a fast track to landed immigrancy for green card holders and stuff. All in all, there are apparently 37,000 (give or take) non-Americans serving in the US forces.

Anyway, our government told their government that their recruiters 'are to refrain from entering Canadian territory.'

You know, to most people, that kind of thing would be kinda obvious. Just a thought.

In yet other news, I'm post-punk.

postpunk
You're a Post-Punk. You know 70s punk was cool, but
it was mostly just a stepping stone for the
greater intellectualism of what would come
after. The 80s were amazing. You quite possibly
have huge hair, and may wear lots of black.
Snare drums need reverb. Lots and lots of
reverb.
