11 September

On this date, I always sort of aimlessly muse about the darkest date in America's history. Thirty years ago to-day, General Pinochet was unleashed by the Nixon administration on the democratically elected president and of Chile. Before long, President Allende was dead and the stadium in Santiago was filling with Chileans who would soon be raped, mutilated and killed in the name of US interests in the rest of America.

This is not conjecture, the documents exist: Chile had to be made an example for the rest of the southern half of America. For that, there were endless meetings between the ITT and the CIA. For that, Nixon's orders left no room for interpretation. For that, thousands of Chileans suffered and died. Simply for saying 'no' to the United States of America.
