Organics
So, J's parents bought a farm just outside of Winnipeg. They're going to plug all the drainage ditches and let most of the farm revert to prairie wetland, not including the area that they've rented to a neighbouring rancher for the use of his herds. They've also started a subsistence garden, which they're going to get certified organic, and from which they'll sell the surplus. It's a process that takes over three years to complete. Apparently, you have to prove that, for three years running, you have used no chemical fertilisers or pesticides and that you have no GMO seeds growing anywhere. After that, you have to keep it up. There's a certified organic farm that just started selling stuff down at the Atwater Market. Maybe to-morrow I'll trundle down and get some Goodies, especially since I now know that there's actually some truth to all the claims that Organics make about being more natural and alladat. Afterwards, I'll go get some FM tea so that the well-meaning roomies won't pick up so much Tetley...
