9/10

So, while engaged in a screaming match with the owner of a neighbouring pub over whether or not the US earned the incident that took place 364 days ago to-day, I was struck by something: To-day is an anniversary that, as a Canadian, I feel is *way* more important than 9/11 and its resulting media circus.

On 10 September 1939, the Canadian government declared war on Germany, effectively sentencing 42,000 Canadians to death on a foreign landscape. At least that war was just. The enemy was scarier and actually *cared* about owning the West, rather than just trying to get us out of their own yards.

If 9/11 and the subsequent War on Terror have changed the world (and if you count giving the US the right to try taking control of the whole damned planet a 'change,' then they certainly did), then the only two legitimate world wars to date changed it more (Well, if you consider the end of the British Empire and birth of the American one, the re-drawing of the maps of Europe and Africa, and the end of the Modern era/birth of the Postmodern one at the end of WWII 'change,' then they certainly did). Especially for Canada, which grew from colony to full-fledged nation because of the second one.

Anyway, I have decided *not* to watch any TV or listen to any radio broadcasts to-morrow for fear of being disgusted. I think CNN has done more to cheapen the deaths that occurred a year minus a day ago than anyone else I could possibly think up.

Fricking media...
