A few facts about our planet.
Little facts I picked up from a photo exhibit on McGill College street while I was out rollerblading with Hudson girl yesterday: - The amount of oil used in a 6-week period to-day (about half of which goes to transportation) would have lasted a year in 1950;
- From 1990 to 1995, 650,000 sq km of forest (think of an area a bit bigger than France) has dissapeared in the developing world;
- There are 826,000,000 under-nourished people on Earth;
- To-day's world military expenditure: US $798 billion; Total official development assistance to underdeveloped nations: US $53.1 billion.
And most of us North Americans can't even be bothered to find fair trade coffee, let alone leave the car at home once in a while. ********** Hmph, according to a leak to the Washington Post and the NY Times, it was US pilot error that killed four Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan. Um, which brings up more questions: Why was the US report leaked to the press even before its Canadian co-chair knew they'd reached a conclusion (Are US officials so used to obfuscation that it's business as usual to keep a co-chair of an investigation ignorant of the actual investigation?), and if the pilot could make that kind of mistake after graduating as a Top Gun, then maybe the system that trained him should bear some of the blame? Dudes, it's now officially broke. Fix it.
