A particularly tasteless memorial

Okay folks? When did we start marking anniversaries at half-year intervals? Man, this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. At this point, people's deaths are being cheapened in that very American rush to turn everything into a symbol. But now it's in bad taste. It's also handing Osama Bin Laden and his cronies a kind of victory, no matter what happens to them. Now every terrorist or nation with a grudge over some US-led injustice (but no chance of winning a fight against the US' high-tech army) will know that a terrorist attack on something big, symbolic, and American will bring the populace to a tearstained standstill, cause a slew of symbolic acts to be executed, and basically make the nation cut itself off even more from the planet. An extremely attractive notion to any terrorist -- remember: Terrorism is theatre. It's gotta be showbiz or it hasn't worked.

Man, I'm a little scared of what this might mean. Up the security around the Statue of Liberty or something, because mediagenic acts of terrorism played upon the formerly invincible US have now been proven to work a lot better than open warfare.
