too tired to make sense

Okay, I do not find myself in the position of actualy defending the US very often, but here I am to-day. The problem is with the almost unanimous 'well, it's been coming for a long time' that seems to be the mantra of everyone who speaks about last Tuesday's events. I think that it's time to concentrate on the pride we should feel about the blood donor clinics that are covering Canada right now, or the impromptu fund-raising concert that happened last week when te artists who'd attended the Canadian Country Music Awards found that they couldn't fly home; I think that we need some more positive thoughts for our lovable Yankee friends in NYC and Washington, and we need to let them know that they are *not* alone.

Look, I know that at the end of the day, It's true: What happened last week is a direct result of the USA's foreign policy since at *least* 1941. Anyone who doesn't see this is either nave beyond human ability or blinded by patriotic nonsense. However, Anyone who thinks that the World Trade Centre was a fair target or that innocent people on aeroplanes can be fairly used as weapons is both heartless and evil. Those were people, not an ideology, not some past act of agression that must be repaid, people. Each of who was sacred and deserved the best that their nations could offer them, not fireballs and anonymous deaths.

Um, by the way, has anyone thought to stop Bush from saying that it was an act of war? I mean, aside from financially sinking former WTC tenants whose office insurance didn't cover acts of war, his statements have suddenly given the aggressors' actions a kind of legitimacy: No longer are they terrorists; now they are enemy soldiers waging war against the USA, not wild freaks terrorising innocent citizens. One only has to look to Viet-Nam or Korea or Iraq to see that neither the West nor their enemies have ever really cared about civilian lives in such a time. Ergo, in a wartime context, 5000 or so innocent dead are allowable casualties of war.

Stupid. Really stupid. Up next: NATO raiders bombing targets when the only reasonable course of action is covert operations and an international tribunal. After all, bombing runs give the other side an excuse to continue hitting NATO targets in a never-ending round of eye-for-an-eye brutality, whereas a tribulnal criminalises acts of terrorism. Period.

As usual, our side takes the wrong road. note to the western miliary aristocracy: please make sure you know who you're fighting, don't invade anyone without *just* cause, and keep your missiles away from embassies, Chinese or otherwise.

So the DVD and VHS editions of Somebody like You arrived at Sister's video store to-day. The company had already airbrushed out the WTC from the skyline on the jackets. *That's* fast work.

Much debauchery last night. The Origamist and I went for supper, then met some old friends of mine (Z-- and A--) for pints and pitchers. By the time we all got to my place, we were three sheets to the wind. We had a fine little Australian Shiraz, then the Origamist and Z shared a cab home. the other old friend had crashed in my bed at least a half-hour before, so I took the couch. Slept from 3h30 to 7h30-ish because the sun streaming into the living room wouldn't let me sleep anymore. Watched Star Trek, then Star Trek: The Next Generation, then Deep Space 9, then Voyager.

I had no idea that Space the Imagination Station had so much Strek on Saturday mornings. I've had my dose for the month. A-- finally got up, was hung over like hell, puked profusely, and went home, though I passed her the Origamist's number because he's a great guy and they seemed to hit it off well while drunk.

Yadda yadda yadda. Went to Maman's to help out with her house, thought about my lover because it's what I do, went to Z--'s for a drink after supper, came home, and am currently boring you with this fricking useless entry.

Shut up, cf; good night all.
