Stupid, stupid world

Ouf! I went with the boys to Orage Julep for lunch, and now I feel bloated and tired. I think it's fairly obvious that the Julep guys hire their waitresses based on how they look in spaghetti straps and short-shorts. Oh, and on how well they can zip from car to car on rollerblades...

I'd feel dirty if they weren't so damned obvious about it.

Holy christ, this ticks me off:

CHAPTER 11 AN 'ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD'
OTTAWA - A B.C. Supreme Court decision last week confirms that Chapter 11 of

the North America Free Trade Agreement is an environmental hazard, according to New Democrat Leader Alexa McDonough.

The court ruled against Mexico's decision to ban development of a toxic waste disposal site because it constituted expropriation under Chapter 11 of NAFTA. The Mexican government was ordered to pay Metalclad Corporation, a U.S. waste-disposal company, over $16 million in damages.

Following the ruling, Ms. McDonough said: "In case there was any doubt, this decision makes it clear. Chapter 11 says that profit is more important than the environment. It says that profit is more important than the health and safety of citizens."

Where in the name of hell does this make sense? Why would any government sign a deal like this? Where is it written that Big Business is more important than people?

I'm fricking pissed, here...

Gotta be up bright and early to-morrow. I'm being picked up near Vendme at 8.15am to be brought to the bus to Bellville. Only two roadshows this year, thank the gods...

Have a good week-end, kiddies.
