A short trip to the nation's Capital Region

Just got back from Ottawa. It was grandpapa's birthday, so I jumped on a noon bus with Sister and went.

Unfortunately, Lover was supposed to come but we had an epic blowout in the morning, so she stayed home. It was a weird morning. I am always bitchy before I get food in the morning. MOst everyone I know is cognizant of this, and they deal accordingly. on top of that, Lover always changes four times before leaving-- but only if we're in a hurry. She also has two pair of shoes at the front door: one slip-and go pair of low-maintenance runners, and one pair of ten-minutes-to-lace boots. Without fail, she aims for the boots if we're late. BY this point, I'm usually somewhere between being bitchy and completely ballistisising. As you can guess, Lover doesn't like this one li'l bit. I understand that she feels a bit put-out by being treated like that. Before breakfast, though, I don't care. Maybe it's due to low-blood sugar before brekkies or something, but I dunno...

I talked it out a bit with Sister, and she thinks that the main problem with Lover and me is that we're both stubborn bitches. Somewhere between the Ontario-Qubec border and downtown Ottawa, I got over feeling angry and used, and realised that this was going to be our first night apart in many, many months. Gave me a bit of a twinge, I guess.

When we got to Ottawa, we rushed about looking for a gift for the birthday grandboy, paper with which to wrap it, and a card. Found all three, went to the second Cup to have a wee dragm and wrap the gift, then jumped on a bus to our uncle's place, where he and his husband regaled us with tales of their last trip to Mexico. Birthday dinner was grand, as were the drinks, and grandpapa loved the gift (Score!).

Got to bed in the wee hours, fell off straightaway and didn't wake 'til the morning.

Brunch at the gradparents this morning, where we drank Eau Bnite (7.7%. Yikes! Canadian beer, eh?) and Fin du Monde before jumping on a bus for home. We had been planning on taking a later bus, but I wanted to get home and do the laundry so I'd have sommat to wear for work, and clean my dingy little room.

Oh, and see if Lover was all right. We took a 3.0p bus.

Oh yeah: While Sis and I were buying and Italian sausage from a street vendor, we noticed that we were surrounded by evangelists for the Canadian Alliance, all stopping passers-by to ask if they wanted the CA to drop taxes.

Excuse me for a moment, but what do I care about how high my taxes are? As far as I'm concerned, the tax-level is a non-issue brough to the forefront by right-wing people who want to run our nation like Washington runs the country below us. I happen to *like* socialised health care and a welfare base for those who need one. Next time some damned politician wants to impress *me*, they'd better come up with a realistic plan for cleaning up the swamp on Parliament Hill and re-jigging the healthcare and welfare systems so that there's less abuse going on. Tax me if you want to, but for the love of Mike, spen the money properly!

Federal election coming fast, folks, it's coming down the pipe...
